Dear ILFA Alumni,
We hope you have had a fruitful and successful 2018.
Many thanks to those of you who have been in contact with ILFA this year. Thank you for taking time to share your stories and updates. Special thanks to those members of the alumni community who have provided practical support to ILFA this year by facilitating introductions, promoting our programmes, providing financial support and even coming to meet our 2018 cohort. Your support is greatly appreciated. We look forward to building many more such connections in 2019. ILFA’s continued success requires the support of all those who have benefitted from ILFA’s programmes.
As part of our ongoing focus on supporting our alumni, we write to share some further opportunities which may be of interest:
- AERIAL 2019 – ILFA Guest Passes
- ILFA IFSP 2019 Evaluation Support
- ILFA National Committees
- ILFA Fundraising – learn how donations of $5 can make a difference!
We hope you will find ways to engage with ILFA in 2019.
We wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Aerial 2019 – ILFA Guest Passes
GECAS, one of our sponsor organisations supports the AERIAL conference every 18 months. The conference provides an opportunity for lawyers to learn about aviation law with a unique African focus and to meet with law firms, lessors, airlines, financiers and manufacturers. In partnership with GECAS, ILFA is pleased to be able to offer 5 guest places to members of our alumni who would benefit most from this opportunity. Nominated guests will not be charged a fee for attending the conference and will only pay for their travel, accommodation and incidental expenses.
The event will take place on 4th and 5th March 2019 in Victoria Falls, Zambia. The conference sessions begin at 8:30am on Mon 4th March and will finish at around 15:00 on Tue 5th March. That timing is designed so that delegates can catch the Tue evening 18:05 KQ flight to Nairobi (and onwards) and for those who are not leaving on the Tuesday, to visit the Victoria Falls that afternoon.
In terms of accommodation, AERIAL has a block reservation with the 4 star Avani Hotel and the 5 star Royal Livingstone Hotel for the Sun 3 March to Wed 6 March. These rooms are held on a “first come, first served” basis and are available to AERIAL guests at a discounted rate per night, including breakfast, of US$200 at the Avani or US$450 at the Royal Livingstone.
If you wish to be considered for this opportunity, please contact Cynthia.email@example.com by 31st December 2018.
ILFA IFSP 2019 Evaluation Support
We are seeking volunteers who would be interested in working alongside the Executive Director to undertake an initial evaluation of the ILFA IFSP 2019 applications. We are expecting to review anywhere between 400 and 600 application forms. Evaluations are conducted using an ILFA Evaluation tool which has strict scoring rubric. Each ILFA application is reviewed at least twice to ensure the tool is applied consistently. We need dedicated reviewers to assist us with this important process. Interested parties should contact firstname.lastname@example.org by 10th January to notify the team of their interest in helping us. Next year we will aim to undertake the evaluations over a 3-week period between February and March.
ILFA National Committees
As you may be aware, ILFA has national committees across Africa who work with us to raise the profile of ILFA and its programmes within their relevant jurisdiction. One of the most significant roles that the National Committees plays is in assisting us with meeting with and assessing shortlisted ILFA candidates for the Flagship and Intra Africa secondment programmes. We also look to the National Committee to assist us with making recommendations as to programme improvements and in mentoring ILFA secondees.
We will be reviewing our National Committees (NC) in 2019 and would be interested in hearing from members of our alumni who would be interested in being considered for an NC role. The role is voluntary. If you wish to be considered for an NC role, please contact Cynthia.email@example.com
ILFA Fundraising 2019
As you know ILFA is a charity and therefore reliant on the goodwill and generosity of our stakeholders in order to continue our mission. We have recently set up an online donations page and invite our alumni to support ILFA’s fundraising activity by giving (you can give as little as a one of $5 donation) and by encouraging individuals and organisations within your network to support us with funding.
